Our Values and Principles

Kaplan in Australia and New Zealand is somewhere
you can be proud to study, proud to work.

At Kaplan we aim to inspire our students and staff. We are a place that values learning above all else; one that encourages growth; one that appreciates and nurtures difference; one that makes a positive global impact by being a good corporate citizen; and one that recognises everyone’s role in enabling success.

We are frank and fearless
To be effective we need to be brave, open and genuine in all that we do. To build effective and trusting relationships with colleagues, students and other external stakeholders, we act with honesty and empathy. We are mindful that we must value the feelings of those around us, while remaining clear, fair and direct in our actions. We know that difficult conversations sometimes need to occur to maintain accountability but these will always carried out with respect and integrity.

We have a commitment to operating ethically
Heard of the sunlight test? Well, this is what we mean by ethics. Everything we do, we do because we know it is logical, rational and considered. We are proud of our actions because we always choose to do what is right, even if it’s not the easy option. We do this because we understand that by valuing integrity, honesty and compassion above all, and by endeavouring to be a good corporate citizen, we can make a positive impact within our communities.

We are a place that enables
We believe that to be innovative and progressive, we need to create an environment that encourages out-of-the-box thinking, nurtures diversity, welcomes change, and rewards creativity. We live by the mantra that it is much better to try something new and get it wrong, than to stay still. As such, we value difference, initiative and commitment to doing things better.

We stand strong
We understand that the world moves fast, mistakes can happen and that change can be difficult. In order to thrive in this environment, we need to be resilient, accountable and responsible for the outcomes of our actions. We admit to our mistakes and we learn from them. We don’t hide behind our peers or point blame, instead we are confident in acknowledging errors or shortcomings, safe in the understanding that we are a non-judgemental network, dedicated to supporting each other through difficulty.

Our Footprint and Partnerships

As an educator, we recognise the important role we play in the community. Building futures doesn’t just mean preparing an individual for their dream job—we aim to empower staff and students alike, so that they can make the future as bright as possible for everyone.

To do this, we have made a commitment at every level of our business to operate sustainably and ethically. By promoting conscientious thinking, by encouraging and enabling our people and by setting a good example, we hope to make a real difference in the world.

We try to create opportunities for our people to engage with social and environmental issues wherever possible. Our staff are actively encouraged to participate in the High Resolves program, supporting high school students as they undertake social action projects in their local communities—a mutually rewarding learning experience, promoting the idea of global citizenship.

Since March 2015, Kaplan has been the Official Education partner of the Sydney Swans. We believe that a great symbiosis exists between Kaplan and the Sydney Swans, in that we both value dedication and focus, and are committed to fostering excellence among our people. This relationship will allow both organisations to reach new heights in encouraging success.

We have also established an internal networking group, the Katherine Graham Leadership Collective, which aims to connect women across the organisation through support and learning initiatives. The collective promotes thoughtful discussion and builds supportive frameworks for self-education, aiming to equip individuals with the skills and confidence they need to create positive social change within the business and beyond.

On top of this, Kaplan also supports a number of charity events and fundraisers throughout the year including fun runs, car-free days and various small or large-scale fundraising by staff, nationally.
